Serum Talin-1 is a Potential Novel Biomarker for Diagnosis of HCC in Egyptian Patients

چکیده
Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the fifth most common tumor and the third most common cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide (El-Serag, 2004; Ferlay et al., 2004). In Egypt, the growing incidence of HCC, which is nearly doubled over the last decade (Hassan et al., 2001; El-Zayadi et al., 2005; Freedman et al., 2006), is attributed to the highest prevalence of hepatitis C virus (HCV) all over the world, ranging from 6 to 28% (AbdelAziz et al., 2000; Khattab et al., 2010). HCV increases HCC risk through promoting fibrosis, and finally leading to cirrhosis. HCC develops at an annual rate of 1-4%, when HCV-related cirrhosis is established (El-Serag and Rudolph, 2007). The incidence and mortality rates for HCC are nearly identical, indicating the overall poor survival of patients with this tumor. Therefore, the most effective treatment relies on the early diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma (Bruix and Sherman, 2005). Alterations in cell-cell adhesion molecules, protein kinases and phosphatases, integrin-associated signaling molecules, or apoptosis regulators can confer resistance to anoikis which is a form of programmed cell death and promote progression to metastasis (Liotta and Kohn, 2004).

Serum MicroRNAs as Potential Biomarkers for Early Diagnosis of Hepatitis C Virus-Related Hepatocellular Carcinoma in Egyptian Patients
Circulating microRNAs are deregulated in liver fibrosis and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and are candidate biomarkers. This study investigated the potential of serum microRNAs; miR-19a, miR-296, miR-130a, miR-195, miR-192, miR-34a, and miR-146a as early diagnostic biomarkers for hepatitis C virus (HCV)-related HCC. As how these microRNAs change during liver fibrosis progression is not clear, ...
متن کاملEvaluation of serum AFP (α-fetoprotein) level in HBsAg carrier patients for diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma
Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is common all over the world as well as Iran. The incidence of HCC is higher in hepatitis B carriers and it is highly recommended to periodically screen these patients by serum alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) and liver ultrasound (US) every 6 months. We explore the diagnostic accuracy and the performance of (AFP) in cases of hepatitis B carriers as a scree...
متن کاملUsefulness of Serum NT-proBNP in Diagnosis of Generalized Seizures in Egyptian Children
Background Seizures may occur in as many as 1% of children. The most urgent type of seizures is generalized tonic-clonic seizures (GTCS). N-terminal prohormone of brain natriuretic peptide (NT‐proBNP) has been considered as a promising biomarker in numerous acute illnesses. We aimed to evaluate usefulness of NT‐proBNP for diagnosis of g...
متن کاملP154: Role of Exosomes as Novel Biomarkers in Diagnosis and Prognosis of Glioblastoma
Glioblastoma multiform(GBM) is the most prevalent primary brain tumor. Exosomes are extracellular vehicles for exchanging information between various cell types including cancer and normal cells. Exosomes are indicative of pathophysiological conditions of brain tumors that could be used in diagnosis and prognosis of GBM. In tumors, exosomes could carry various molecules like several miRNAs and ...
متن کاملStatus of serum alpha feto-protein (AFP) and midkine (MDK) levels in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma
Introduction: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is sixth common cancers worldwide and predominant in Asia and Africa. A number of evidence suggests a possible role of midkine (MDK) and α-fetoprotein (AFP) in the pathogenesis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Materials and methods: We studied MDK and AFP in patients with HCC or in healthy controls. MDK and AFP was measured by enzyme linked immuno...
